The Advantage Bead Filter design provides an excellent environment for the bacteria to thrive and grow. The amount of beneficial bacteria a bead filter can support is limited by the total surface area available to grow on. Some advantages of the Advantage Bead Filter are as following:
- Crystal clear water
- Healthy water
- Easy to maintain
- Mechanical separation of waste filtration
- Biological chemical filtration
- Also superior features that are not available on other brands (Transparent see through dome, large waste line window, etc.)
Crystal clear water is achieved by the systems design having the proper amount of beads and superior head design, which enables this system to mechanically filter and trap the crud till back washed out.
Laser testing was performed to determine the effectiveness of the Advantage Bead filter in trapping debris. Under a normal fish load, the filter was trapping down to 25 - 30 micron. The human eye isn't able to see below 40 micron. To improve filtering out the fine crud getting past the bead filter, testing was performed with the added Advantage Glass filter. This second filter after the bead filter was able to reduce the size of the fines getting discharged out of the filters down to an amazing small size of only 8 - 9 micron.
Healthy water is important to any Koi pond. First and most important in any ponds filtration system is to effectively perform the chemical filtering. The Advantage Bead filters are superior to others designs with massive biological capacity.
The joy of pond keeping is easy with the simple four minute back washing procedure that is performed about once a week. The backwash instructions are even laminated.
Feedback from customers range from being totally satisfied to being the best investment they have made for the pond.
"Just wanted to let you know how happy I am with the filter and pump purchased from you. I have a crystal clear pond and have been really enjoying the difference. Thank you so much!"

Look at all the Advantages:
- State of the art “Bead Filtration” which provides both an extremely efficient mechanical and biological filter all in one.
- Trapping debris down to a range of 25 - 30 micron.
- A pressurized system which allows the filter to be located out of sight from the pond if desired.
- The lowest head pressure of any bead filter available today due to the unique inner patented head design. This means you can use the new energy efficient type pumps.
- All models come standard with a large 2 hp. blower which helps create the most efficient and easiest system to backwash available.
- Easy access to bead media (30 sec.). No plumbing to disconnect or remove; just unscrew the transparent see through top cap.
- The “Medication Cycle” not only allows you to bypass the beads when medicating the pond, but also to keep the beads thoroughly oxygenated during this critical period.
- A large 2 inch sight glass is installed so you can easily tell when the filter is clean during the backwash cycle.
- The only bead filter available with a clear top closure lid that now allows you to see into the filter during back washing to make sure the bead media is thoroughly mixing.
- A “Guarantee” that no one can beat! If you are not completely satisfied with any Advantage filter during the first year of operation for any reason, we will buy back the filter and pay the return shipping charges.
The filter comes in three sizes:
Advantage 5 - for ponds up to 5,000 gallons
Advantage 10 - for ponds up to 10,000 gallons
Advantage 15 - for ponds up to 15,000 gallons
The surface area of a cubic foot of beads is quite impressive. By measuring the surface area of a single bead and determining how many are in a cubic feet, we can calculate the total surface area.
A single beads surface area is approximately 1/6 of a square inch. There are approximately 325 beads in a cubic inch or 561,600 beads in one cubic foot. Therefore, one cubic foot of beads would have a surface area of 93,600 square inches or 650 square feet.
The
Advantage 5 bead filter, our smallest filter, contains 3 cubic feet
of beads which would have a biological surface area of approximately
1,950 square feet for bacteria to grow on. That is an area 30' by
65' or approximately the surface area of a tennis court.
(The Advantage 15 bead filter, with 6 cubic feet of beads, would
be twice as large.)
Secondly, as new bacteria are constantly being produced, it is necessary to backwash your filter to remove the dying bacteria for the new to thrive. (This is why lava rock filters loose their efficiency and become toxic after a period of time as the decaying bacteria rot.) In the Advantage bead filter, as soon as the old bacteria dies and lets loose from the surface of the beads, it is washed away through back washing allowing the new bacteria to flourish.
Each filter contains specially designed plastic beads that are dimpled. The uneven surface provides a good footing for the beneficial bacteria to adhere too. The unique shape and size maximize the ability to trap and separate waste and crud, while permitting optimum flow rates.

The beads used are manufactured to strict specifications and are available only for Advantage bead filters. Other may look alike, yet are not.

Included with the Advantage Bead filter at no additional cost is the 2-horse power blower unit. The blower is used only during times when back washing the filter.
The weatherproof blower runs on 115 volt and draws 8 amps.
The blower unit’s weatherproof switch is ready for hard wiring directly to the power source. If you prefer installing a power cord instead of the hard wiring method, ready to wire power cords can be found at your local hardware stores.
When installing an Advantage Glass filter with the Advantage Bead filter, the blower is used to aid in back washing the glass filter.

A yellow pushpin is located below the blower unit on the ball valves red handle. This pin is used during the disassembly or rebuilding of the ball valve should it ever be required.
We do not ever see a reason that disassembly of the ball valve will be needed. However, to disassemble the ball valve, remove the blower unit to expose the two holes in the threads. Using the yellow pushpin from the handle, insert it into the two holes to remove the current pin. The top surface of the ball valve can now be lifted up to remove the internal parts. Reverse to assemble.

These clear lids allow you to see into the filter
during backwash to confirm that the filter is back washing properly.
They are made of high strength isoplast (thermoplastic polyurethane) and are slightly yellow
in color to reduce algae from forming on them. These lids have been
tested for use only on the Advantage Bead filters. Not for
sale for use on any other brand filter. These lids come
standard on all new Advantage bead filters.

One key as to why the "Advantage Filter" works so well is its patented internal head design. Its head is designed so that 70% of the water flow is directed straight through the filter head toward the bottom of the filter. This differs from most other filters that require that all the water make a sudden 90-degree turn though the head slots before entering the filter body. This design accomplishes the following: |
No sludge buildup!

The
Advantage Filter has a custom large two inch site glass window that
benefits during the cleaning process.
Located on the valve body on the waste line. The benefit of this large viewing window helps during the back washing and rinse cycles when cleaning.
With the ability to clearly see and monitor the water as it passes through. This aids the user by not draining more water from the system then needed.
A union is also mounted directly behind the site window for connection to a drain.

TIP:
When connecting the waste line to a drain, consider using a two inch line that ends a few inches into a larger drain pipe. This pipe should either lead to a waste location that can handle hundreds of gallons of water or a landscape French Drain that permits the water to leach into the soil around it.

One box of media typically ships inside the filter to take advantage of the shipping space, while maintaining the ability to still be able to move the filter body.
When matching the filter to your size pond, consider getting the next size up. Since the bead filter is supporting biological processing of fish waste, getting a larger filter permits support for more fish.
Typically, when matching a Glass filter to a Bead filter, select the same size units. A larger Glass filter can be matched, however, to a smaller Bead filter. (i.e. Advantage 10 Glass to an Advantage 5 Bead filter)
Installing a Glass filter is designed (when properly installed*) to take your pond water clarity to an even higher level.
